Set up Snow Optimizer OData service

To make Snow Optimizer data available in Power BI, you must set up the OData service. To do this, you must activate the SAP Gateway and the OData services in the SAP system.

Activate SAP Gateway

The OData service in SAP is provided by the SAP Gateway. You can activate the SAP Gateway either locally, on the same system where Snow Optimizer is installed, or externally, on another system.

note

This topic only describes the setup of the local gateway. For the external gateway setup, see documentation like, for example, SAPLearners.com.

To check whether the local SAP Gateway is already activated and to activate it, if necessary, do the following:

  1. In the SAP GUI, execute the SPRO transaction.

  2. Select SAP Reference IMG.

  3. In the tree structure, select SAP NetWeaver > SAP Gateway > OData Channel > Configuration > Activate or Deactivate SAP Gateway.

  4. In Activate or Deactivate SAP Gateway, select Execute.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • If the SAP Gateway is deactivated, select Activate.
    • If the SAP Gateway is already activated, select Cancel.

Activate OData service

To activate the OData services in an SAP system, you can either use the Flexera /DYNAM/ namespace, your own namespace, or the Z namespace.

tip

To avoid possible conflicts with already existing objects, we recommend using the Flexera /DYNAM/ namespace.

Activate OData service using the Flexera /DYNAM/ namespace

  1. In the SAP Downloads area in the Flexera Support Portal, download the OData service activation transport.

  2. Import the transport into the SAP system where you want to activate the OData service.

  3. In the SAP GUI, execute the /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE transaction.

    note

If an error message is shown while executing the transaction, execute it again with the prefix /n, i.e., /n/IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE.

  4. In the Service Catalog area, select the /DYNAM/ODATA_BI_SRV technical service name.

  5. In the IFC Nodes area, select ICF Node, then select Configure (SICF).

  6. In the tree structure, right-click on odata_bi_srv and select Activate Service.

  7. In the pop-up, select Accept.png.

  8. In the System aliases area, select Add System Alias.

  9. Select New Entries.

  10. In the value help of the Service Doc. Identifier column, select /DYNAM/ODATA_BI_SRV_0001.

  11. In the value help of the SAP System Alias column, select LOCAL.

  12. Save.

  13. Go back to the Service Catalog and test the OData service.

Activate OData service using own namespace or the Z namespace

  1. In the SAP GUI, execute the /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE transaction.

    note

If an error message is shown while executing the transaction, execute it again with the prefix /n, i.e., /n/IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE.

  2. Select Add service.

  3. Select the LOCAL SAP system alias and select Get Services.

  4. Select the /DYNAM/ODATA_BI_SRV technical service name.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • To use the Z namespace, enter the ZODATA_BI_SRV technical service name and the ZODATA_BI_MDL technical model name.
    • To use your own namespace, enter your own technical service name and technical model name.
  6. Do one of the following:

    • If you want to transport the settings into other systems, select an existing package in Package Assignment.
    • If you do not want to transport the settings into other systems, select Local Object.
  7. Select Accept.png.

  8. Go back to the Service Catalog.

  9. Select the technical service name that you created.

  10. In the IFC Nodes area, select ICF Node, then select Configure (SICF).

  11. In the tree structure, right-click on odata_bi_srv and select Activate Service.

  12. In the pop-up, select Accept.png.

  13. Test the OData service.

Test OData service

  1. In the SAP GUI, execute the /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE transaction.

    note

If an error message is shown while executing the transaction, execute it again with the prefix /n, i.e., /n/IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE.

  2. In the Service Catalog area, select the service you want to test.

  3. In the IFC Nodes area, select SAP Gateway Client.

  4. Select Execute.

In the HTTP Response area, the available data categories are shown.

note

After setting up the OData service, you must release the data in Snow Optimizer. For information on this, see User Guide.
